Joshua A. Gottschall
MD, FAAP, FACS

Surgery
Founder and President

Dr. Joshua Gottschall grew up in Long Island, New York. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1995. He was awarded a Medical Doctorate from the State University of New York, Downstate College of Medicine in 1999. After medical school, Dr. Gottschall completed his residency training in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery at Henry Ford Hospital. In 2004, he completed his pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at the Children's National Medical Center at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Since 2011, Dr. Gottschall has served as Medical Director of Pediatric Otolaryngology at the Walt Disney Pavilion at Florida Hospital for Children and is a partner at Children's Ear Nose & Throat Associates (CENTA) both in Orlando, Florida. Outside of medicine, Dr. Gottschall enjoys spending time with his family, travel, music and sailing.
Barry M. Rasgon
MD

Dr. Rasgon is a native Californian who attended the University of California Riverside where he graduated Magnum Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa and received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He received his medical degree from the University of Southern California. He completed his residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Kaiser Permanente, Oakland in 1990. He has been on the medical staff at Kaiser Oakland since 1990. He has been involved with medical missionary work for the last 12 years in both Guatemala and the Philippines. He has been going to Guatemala for greater than 10 years now and went to the Philippines for the first time on a medical mission in 2010 and again in 2012. He plans on continuing the mission to the Philippines on a yearly bases. On these missions he has performed a variety of surgeries including otologic, oncologic, pediatric, and thyroid surgery. Locally he is involved with Operation Access, a program in the Bay Area that makes it possible for uninsured and underserved people to receive surgical and specialty care. He was raised in Malibu in Southern California and came from a family of Kaiser Physicians. He is married and has two children and enjoys working with his wife on medical missions. He also enjoys reading, fishing, skiing and traveling.
Sheila Vaz
MD

Anesthesiology
Secretary

Born and raised in India, Dr. Sheila Vaz attended undergraduate training and medical school at the Marathwada University in India. After relocating to the United States, she completed her residency training at the Yale New Haven Hospital (Yale University). She is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and has been working with the Permanente Medical Group in Santa Clara, CA since 2002. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family. She enjoys hiking and loves to travel. She also spend a significant amount of time keeping current with all the latest advances in her field.

Annette Chenevey

Vice President of Anesthesia Services and Treasurer

Annette is a full time staff Nurse Anesthetist for Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is also affiliated with Samuel Meritt University School of Nurse Anesthesia in Oakland, California. Annette has been participating in medical missions around the world since the 1980's and has provided anesthesia care in remote situations for several different organizations since 1997. She is very proud to be a part of Surgery OverSeas and is excited to be working with this great group of dedicated volunteers.
Rebecca Benavides-Fulk

Operating Room Technician
Vice President of Perioperative Services

Rebecca is a native Californian of Spanish decent. She was enlisted in the United States Army National Guard in 1991 through 1997. She attended the Academy of Health Science in San Antonio, Texas. Rebecca holds the rank of Medic (91 Bravo) and Operating Room Specialist (91 D). She completed her on the job training at Tripler Medical Center in Honolulu Hawaii. Rebecca has been at Kaiser for 20 years working as an operating room technician (ORT). She volunteers at Kaiser for operation access and has been involved with overseas medical missions for many years.
Janell Rasgon
Vice President of Program Development

Janell was born and raised in Ohio and moved to California in 1985. She attended Mt. Diablo School and graduated from their Surgical Technology Program. She worked for Kaiser Permanente until 2002. She has been involved with medical missions for the last 12 years in both Guatemala and the Philippines. She plans on continuing the mission to the Philippines on a yearly basis. Janell is married and has 3 children. She enjoys gardening, reading, and traveling with her husband.
Trevor Vaz

Web Development and Information Technology
Web Development

Trevor is an experienced marketing professional with a strong technology and business background. He has over 25 years of large company, small company and start-up work experience having worked in senior marketing roles at Silicon Valley companies successfully managing the development and launch of many technology products. He is glad to be able to bring his Web Development and Information Technology skills to help Surgery Overseas achieve its goals. Trevor has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay, a MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.
